A Delegation of the Republic of Moldova participated in the Intellectual Property Case Law Conference

04/30/2024

A delegation of the Republic of Moldova, led by the Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Eugeniu Rusu, participated, from April 29 to 30, in the 5th edition of the Intellectual Property Case Law Conference (IPCLC), hosted at the headquarters of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Alicante, Spain.

The event brought together influential figures from private sector, judiciary academia and representatives of intellectual property offices to discuss important case law aspects of the European Union courts in areas such as trademarks, industrial designs, and to explore the new legislative initiatives in this field.

The delegation of the Republic of Moldova was composed of representatives of several institutions, including AGEPI, the Customs Service, the State Inspectorate for Supervision of Non-Food Products and Consumer Protection, and the Prosecutor General’s Office, members of the Observatory on Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights in the Republic of Moldova.

During the visit to Alicante, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova had a meeting with the members of the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights, hosted by EUIPO, to exchange information and perspectives on strategies to combat infringements of intellectual property rights and ways to strengthen cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union in this field. Members of the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights were interested in the progress and challenges in the Republic of Moldova in terms of intellectual property protection and provided insights and recommendations for improving the legal framework and law enforcement practices.

Also, the Director General of AGEPI, Eugeniu Rusu, had a meeting with the Executive Director of EUIPO, João Negrão, where they discussed the activities within the cooperation between EUIPO and AGEPI and explored ways to strengthen the collaboration between the two institutions. The importance of the exchange of expertise and best practices in the field of intellectual property protection was emphasized during the discussions.

We should note that the participation of the delegation of the Republic of Moldova in the IPCLC Conference was possible with the support of the Project “Strengthening Intellectual Property Rights in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine” (EU4IP), funded by the European Union (EU), and implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office ( EUIPO).
