AGEPI - Partner of the National Contest of Science and Engineering “Mold SEF 2015”

In the period 25-27 February 2015, the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Intel representative in Kiev, Ukraine, and the National Association of ICT Companies organized in Chisinau the National Contest of Science and Engineering “Mold SEF”. In the context of supporting and stimulating the ideas of creativity and inventiveness, AGEPI participated, for the first time, in this contest in order to promote information in the field of protection of intellectual property among pupils in undergraduate educational institutions of the republic and encourage participants in this event. Also AGEPI experts were part of the Contest Jury and participated with a presentation about the importance of patenting inventions in the Republican Seminar for teachers and project coordinators, organized on the occasion of the same event.

Now in its third edition, the contest has gathered this year 48 works presented by 64 pupils from Chisinau and Balti municipalities and Ungheni, Causeni, Soroca districts. Of the total number of cases, 21 relate to the field of science, 15 - to the field of applied sciences and 12 target information technologies.

The award ceremony was attended by representatives of the institutions involved in the organization of the event, partners and sponsors of this contest: Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. Igor Grosu, Director of Intel Educational Programs in Kiev, Ukraine, Ms. Tatiana Nanaeva, Executive Director of the National Association of ICT Companies, Ms. Ana Chirita, Deputy Director General of AGEPI, Mrs. Svetlana Munteanu, representatives of the Technical University of Moldova, Chisinau Polytechnic College, Starnet and Microsoft companies.

In their opening addresses speakers congratulated the participants for the performance they showed and expressed confidence that the country’s future is in the hands of ambitious and inventive young people, as those present at the contest.

Mr. Deputy Minister of Education, Igor Grosu, appreciated the Contest as a novel platform for young people and their mentors to exchange ideas and to promote their inventions and innovations with perseverance, tenacity and dedication.

The best works were rewarded with honorable mentions, First, Second and Third Class diplomas, according to the three contest categories, and special prizes from sponsors and partners.

Two of the winning projects will represent our country in May 2015 in the Intel ISEF international contest, to be held in Pittsburgh, United States of America. The first project, developed by Laurentiu Calancea and Gleb Vizitiv, proposes the technology “Windows of the Future” that could be applied to create efficient windows that would significantly decrease energy consumption and financial resources allocated for this purpose. The second project, developed by Diana Marusic and Savva Dmitrii, target an efficient and economical gesture recognition system. Using the system, according to the authors of the project, will bring benefits in many fields, such as medicine, education, 3D modeling and could help people with special needs.

In turn, AGEPI provided a diploma and a special prize worth 1000 lei for the work “Use of renewable energy resources - Stirling engine”, developed by the pupil Alexandru Sirbu. When handing the prize, Ms. Svetlana Munteanu, Deputy Director General of AGEPI, wished to appreciate the high level of organization of the Contest and urged pupils to protect their technical and scientific creations which meet the conditions of novelty, inventiveness and industrial applicability by their patenting, noting that within AGEPI pupils are exempted from fees for obtaining a patent. Also, she informed contest participants about the International Specialized Exhibition “Infoinvent” which will take place in the period 25-28 November 2015 at IEC “Moldexpo” and invited them to submit their works to the section “Creation of Youth”. Also, AGEPI has provided informative material and encouragement prizes for all participants.
