The National Report on the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights Has Been Published

The State Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova (AGEPI) announces the launch of the National Report on the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in the Republic of Moldova for 2019, the event being part of the actions undertaken at national and international level in the context of World Anti-Counterfeiting Day marked annually in June.

The Report is prepared by the Observatory on Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights of AGEPI with the information support of the public authorities of the Republic of Moldova responsible for the enforcement of intellectual property rights, namely: Customs Service, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Agency for Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance, Public Prosecutor’s Office and Competition Council.

The Report contains relevant statistical and analytical data on the activity of the law-enforcement bodies in the fight against infringements of intellectual property rights, and also information on legislative and institutional developments in the field concerned. Also, the publication reflects the most important actions undertaken by the public authorities of the Republic of Moldova during 2019, with a view to increasing the degree of public awareness of the risks posed by the phenomena of counterfeiting and piracy.

The protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights is a key parameter of progress in the field of research, innovation and employment. This National Report is developed to ensure the continuity of collection and systematization of IPR enforcement data, and also to encourage the community to become our partners in the fight against piracy and counterfeiting.

The Report is prepared annually since 2012. The publication of the report is part of the efforts of public authorities to develop a balanced system of enforcement of intellectual property rights, in line with the National Intellectual Property Strategy until 2020.

We should remind you that World Anti-Counterfeiting Day has been marked since 1998 in June each year on the initiative of the Global Anti-Counterfeiting Network (GACG) with the aim to raise public awareness of the economic damage caused by counterfeiting and piracy to trade companies, these illegal practices cause the loss of hundreds of thousands of skilled jobs worldwide and can often endanger the health of consumers or cause serious damage to the environment.
