The General Director of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Eugeniu Rusu, participated on 17-18 January in the 5th edition of the Regional Conference on IP in the Digital Economy for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises: Film Industry in the Digital Environment. The event took place in Bucharest, Romania, and was organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in cooperation with the Romanian State Office for Inventions and Trademarks (OSIM), the Romanian Copyright Office (ORDA) and the Romanian American University in Bucharest.

The purpose of the event was to promote effective ways of using the intellectual property system in the digital economy by small and medium-sized enterprises in the film industry in Central Europe and the Baltic States.

The regional conference was attended by representatives of national authorities, holders of copyright and related rights, collective management organizations, film industry associations, digital platforms, small and medium-sized enterprises, users and consumers, as well as representatives of the academic environment.

Copyright management in the audiovisual sector, national and international perspectives, rights acquired to produce audiovisual works and licenses required for their distribution, piracy and counterfeiting, initiatives and recommendations - are some of the topics discussed during the Conference. The event also included a panel discussion with film directors Ruxandra Ghitescu, Ketevan Machavariani, Orsi Nagypal and Alina Grigore.

The Director General of AGEPI, Eugeniu Rusu, participated in the event with a presentation during the round table with the main title “Initiatives and Recommendations in Support of the Audiovisual Sector” where he spoke about the new regulations on copyrights in film and audiovisual works as well as about the allocations of the Government of the Republic of Moldova intended for the development of the field of cinematography.

Also, in the context of the Regional Conference in Bucharest, the Director General of AGEPI visited several organizations for collective management of copyright and related economic rights of Romania. Their representatives presented in detail their activity, the software, the process of collecting and distributing the remuneration and other useful information. Eugeniu Rusu expressed his opinion on the need to intensify the exchange of experience with their counterparts from the Republic of Moldova, who could take over their good practices, and also offer new visions in return.

The Director General of AGEPI received assurances that we will benefit from the support of Romanian colleagues in the European course of the Republic of Moldova, for which he thanked them cordially.
