In the period from September to November, the National Institute of Justice, in cooperation with the Supreme Council of Magistrates, organized an advanced training course for judges of the Supreme Court of Justice focused on intellectual property rights, including copyright and related rights.

The training course aimed at raising the level of knowledge of judges in intellectual property, in the conditions of increasing the number of appeals in the courts of the Republic of Moldova on the protection of intellectual property rights. It should be noted that the request to organize such a training course came from magistrates of the Supreme Court.

The course was delivered by Ion Ţiganas, Deputy Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property, trainer of the National Institute of Justice. In the course were addressed the national and international regulations in the field, the basic principles of intellectual property, the role and essence thereof in the legal relationships, the forms and limits of protection of intellectual property objects, the system of rights generated by it and practical aspects on settlement of disputes related to intellectual property rights, in general and copyright, in particular. The focus of the training was directed to the examination of legal regulations in the light of national and international jurisprudence.

The training course fits into the Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Institute of Justice and the State Agency on Intellectual Property, signed in April 2013, which stipulates the need to promote knowledge of the national system of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights among employees in the justice sector of the Republic of Moldova. Thus, in the activities referred to in the Memorandum of Cooperation, the two institutions annually organize training seminars for judges, prosecutors and mediators.
