Seminar on Intellectual Property at the State University of Comrat

On April 28, 2015, inside the library of the State University of Comrat was held the training seminar of students entitled “Protection of Intellectual Property in the Republic of Moldova”. The event took place in the context of events dedicated to World Intellectual Property Day and was aimed to familiarize students and professors with the national system of protection, exploitation and enforcement of intellectual property rights.

In the opening, Mrs. Olga Aculova, lecturer at the Economics Department of the Economics Faculty of the State University of Comrat, specified the importance of knowing the national IP system, registration of intellectual property objects and economic impact that this fact has for future specialists.

Subsequently, the senior specialist of the Marketing, Services Department of AGEPI, Alina Fodea, made a presentation of intellectual property in general, its role, essence, components and importance for economic development. Thus, industrial property objects have been described and exemplified, together with their related legislation. During the seminar, students were informed about the possibility of accessing online, free of charge, databases and other useful information in the field on the website www.agepi.gov.md and also were invited to attend the IP courses organized annually by AGEPI for deepening knowledge related to intellectual property.

Further, about protection of copyright and related rights spoke Sergiu Brinza, senior lawyer, Legislation Enforcement Division of AGEPI. In his report emphasis was put on the legislation in the field of copyright and related rights, it was explained the copyright objects registration modality, and also the difference between these and industrial property objects.

During the discussions, the students were interested in the field of copyright, the reason being frequent use of the Internet as a source of information, and the various computer programs.

The participants in the seminar received a set of promotional materials about intellectual property, namely: leaflets on the protection of literary, scientific works, computer programs; leaflets about the negative effects of counterfeiting and piracy phenomena; the SMEs’ Guide “Investments and Profit with Intellectual Property”, that came to fill those discussed in the seminar.

We should also mention that in the library hall was arranged an information stand with IP literature which shows that Comrat State University students have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with thematic publications in the given field.
