On February 12, 2026, the Coordination Committee of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), meeting in Geneva, has nominated Mr. Daren Tang (Singapore) for a second six-year term to the post of Director General of WIPO.
The nomination is subject to confirmation at an extraordinary session of the WIPO General Assembly, as well as the Paris Union Assembly and the Berne Union Assembly, scheduled for April 21, 2026.
The Coordination Committee, comprising 83 Member States, held one round of voting from a list of two candidates. Mr. Daren Tang obtained 81 votes, and the second candidate, Mr. Johanny Stanley Joseph (Republic of Haiti), accumulated 2 votes.
The Republic of Moldova participated in the meeting of the Coordination Committee with the right to vote, represented by Mr. Vladimir CUC, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to the Swiss Confederation, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the UN Office in Geneva, as Head of the delegation.
The current mandate of Mr. Daren Tang expires on September 30, 2026. Prior to his appointment to the leadership of WIPO, Mr. Tang (CV) held the position of Chief Executive of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore.
