The 13th edition of the National Science and Engineering Contest “Mold SEF” (Moldova Science and Engineering Fair) was held from February 14 to 16, 2025. The event brought together 128 pupils from all over the country, who presented 83 innovative projects, developed under the guidance of 64 coordinating teachers.
The competition was organized by the Ministry of Education and Research and the National Agency for Curriculum and Evaluation, in partnership with the Association of ICT Companies, the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), the State University of Moldova, the Film and Media Industries Production Center MEDIACOR and the Republican Center for Children and Youth ARTICO.
The opening ceremony of the event was also attended by the Director General of AGEPI, Eugeniu Rusu, who stressed the importance of protecting intellectual property rights in the scientific and technological field. “This contest is a launching pad for young people in the Republic of Moldova. The protection of inventions and innovations is essential for the success of future generations of specialists,” said Eugeniu Rusu. The Director General of AGEPI also attended the award ceremony, where he congratulated the winners and encouraged them to continue their research and innovations.
The competition was open to gymnasium and lyceum pupils, who had the opportunity to present their projects in various fields, such as natural sciences, applied sciences and information technology. Thematic categories included chemistry, biology, mechanical engineering, artificial intelligence and many others, giving pupils a platform to express their creativity and passion for science and technology.
Of the total number of projects entered:
Ø 26 were in the “Science and Mathematics” category;
Ø 36 in the “Applied Sciences” category;
Ø 21 in the “Information Technology” category.
The projects were evaluated based on the criteria of applicability, creativity, scientific approach, complexity, topicality and clarity of presentation. Following the judging, 30 projects were designated winners at the national stage, and two of them were selected to represent the Republic of Moldova at the international stage of the competition.
The projects selected for the international competition are:
Ø “Контролируемая Акустическая Левитация” – developed by Bulancea Anton, a pupil at the Theoretical Lyceum “ORIZONT” from Chișinău;
Ø “Development of the technique for collecting petroleum-based products from water surfaces using nanotechnologies” – developed by Palii Laurențiu and Gaitur Ruslan, pupils in the 12th grade at the Republican Theoretical Lyceum “Aristotel” from Chișinău.
The winners of this year’s edition are pupils from educational institutions in the districts and municipalities of Anenii Noi, Bălți, Cahul, Chișinău, Criuleni, Edineț, Ialoveni, Sîngerei, Soroca and UTA Gagauzia. The full list of award winners can be found here.
