The 11th edition of the International Conference on Materials Science and Condensed Matter Physics (MSCMP 2026), one of the reference scientific events dedicated to research in the field of materials science and condensed matter physics, is held in Chisinau from September 1 to 4, 2026.
Traditionally organized every two years, the conference brings together researchers, teachers, specialists and representatives of the scientific community from the Republic of Moldova and abroad. The event, organized by the Institute of Applied Physics and the Institute of Chemistry of the State University of Moldova, provides a platform for presenting the latest research results, exchanging experience and expertise, developing scientific cooperation and identifying new directions for research and innovation.
The importance of the conference goes beyond the academic framework, as research in the field of materials science plays a strategic role in the development of modern technologies and in increasing the competitiveness of the industrial sector. New materials and technological solutions developed within the framework of research activities can contribute to the emergence of innovative products and processes in areas such as industry, energy, electronics, construction, medicine and advanced technologies.
In this context, strengthening the link between the research environment and the economic sector is an essential factor for using the scientific potential of the country and for developing an economy based on knowledge and innovation.
This year’s edition has a special significance, being dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the founding of the State University of Moldova, as well as paying tribute to two prominent figures of science in the Republic of Moldova – Academician Pavel Vlad, whose birth is 90 years old, and Academician Sergiu Rădăuțan, whose birth is 100 years old.
The opening ceremony, held on September 1, was also attended by the Head of Patents Directorate of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Viorel Iustin. AGEPI’s participation in this event reflects the importance attached to strengthening cooperation with the academic and research environment and promoting intellectual property as a tool for supporting innovation. For AGEPI, dialogue with researchers and research institutions is essential for raising awareness of the protection of research results and for facilitating their transformation into inventions, technologies and other intellectual property objects with economic and social value.
By promoting the culture of intellectual property and supporting the process of protecting and using research results, AGEPI contributes to the consolidation of a national innovation ecosystem in which research, intellectual property and industrial development complement and support each other.
The results of the scientific activity of the State University of Moldova in the field of physics concretely illustrate this innovation potential. Thus, in the field of physics, corresponding to Section G of the International Patent Classification (IPC), SUM has filed, during its scientific activity, 85 patent applications and obtained 80 titles of protection.
These results highlight the capacity of the university’s scientific community to generate technical solutions and transform research results into intellectual property objects, thus contributing to strengthening the link between science, innovation and economic development.
