This year, on April 26, the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) celebrate World Intellectual Property Day, under the theme “Intellectual Property and the Sustainable Development Goals: Building our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity”.
Intellectual property plays an important role in addressing the global challenges we face. It is a powerful catalyst for growth and development and has a key role in improving livelihoods and protecting our planet. World Intellectual Property Day 2024 is an opportunity to highlight the central role that intellectual property, innovation and creativity play in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the benefit of all.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by the international community in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and planet, both now and in the future. The 2030 Agenda is underpinned by 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which are an urgent call to action for all countries to come together in a global partnership to pave the way to a better and more sustainable future.
World Intellectual Property Day 2024 is an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding contribution of innovation and creativity to the progress of our society. The program of events proposed by the World Intellectual Property Organization on this occasion also includes the events that will take place at the national level.
To emphasize diversity and inclusion in development and innovation efforts in the field of intellectual property, the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) will organize a series of activities specific to this event of global importance. We will return with more details later.
World Intellectual Property Day has been marked since 2000, and April 26 marks the entry into force of the 1970 WIPO Convention.
