Director General of AGEPI - Speech at the International Conference of the World Intellectual Property Organization

04/06/2022

The Director General of AGEPI participated in the discussions on intellectual property and frontier technologies, which took place in an international conference held by the World Intellectual Property Organization.

The event, suggestively called the WIPO Conversation, is in its 5th edition and took place this year on April 5-6. The organizers aimed to analyze new technologies and assess their possible uses in IP administration and registration, as well as to discover the impact on IP system of frontier technologies, including artificial intelligence. The event encourages information sharing across all stakeholders from IP Offices to private enterprises and facilitates transfer of knowledge and experiences between IP professionals, innovators, creators and other actors in the system.

The Director General of AGEPI, Eugeniu Rusu, presented the vision of the intellectual property office of the Republic of Moldova on the frontier technologies as a driver of equitable digital transformation.

According to the institution’s manager, this “is possible only if relevant policies are implemented and institutional capacity for administering intellectual property is strengthened by creating a predictable regulatory framework, as well as by acquiring and implementing competitive and integrated ICT”.

The Director General also reviewed the factors that put pressure on IP offices to accelerate the process of digital transformation, including the demand for complex and digitized IP services, as well as the exponential growth of the data that an IP office has to process daily, so-called big data, which, without the use of intelligent processing tools, could overflow and block processes.

“The only way we can keep up with the digital transformation process is to join forces and share new technologies for the benefit of all our communities,” concluded the AGEPI director.

The WIPO Conversations are conducted in an open format and are intended to provide a global discussion platform for all stakeholders.

The first four sessions of the WIPO Conversation brought together more than 2,000 participants from 130 member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization, specialists in the field of IP, representatives of the academic and business environment.
