AGEPI participated in a Round Table in the Field of Copyright and Related Rights

The delegation of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), on a working visit to Bucharest at the invitation of the Romanian Copyright Office, participated on June 15, this year, in the Round Table entitled “Harmonization of the Legal Framework of the Republic of Moldova with the European Acquis in the Field of Copyright and Related Rights”.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Culture of Romania, Romanian Copyright Office (ORDA) and State Office for Inventions and Trademarks (OSIM), of the Romanian collective management organizations, lawyers and cultural workers.

In the opening of the round table, the Director General of ORDA Andrei-Simion Ijac, highly appreciated the collaboration between AGEPI and ORDA and reiterated the willingness of the Bucharest authorities to provide all necessary support to strengthen the intellectual property system of the Republic of Moldova in the spirit of European best practices, especially in the conditions in which the Republic of Moldova is in the process of harmonizing copyright law with the acquis communautaire.

In his speech, Eugeniu Rusu, Director General of AGEPI, first of all wanted to thank the host of the event, the Ministry of Culture of Romania, represented by the Deputy Secretary of State Costel-Cristian Lazar, and also the representatives of the other institutions and organizations present at the event for their openness and willingness to support the Republic of Moldova in its European course.

Topics related to the European Union’s regulatory framework in the field of copyright and related rights were discussed during the round table, the discussions being focused on Romania’s experience of transposition and application of directives at national level: tools, methodologies and good practices.

The Director General of AGEPI presented at the event the new draft law on copyright and related rights, designed to ensure the transposition of European directives and to contribute to strengthening the regulatory and institutional framework of the Republic of Moldova in this sector.

Representatives of the Romanian collective management organizations present at the event welcomed the Agency’s initiative to harmonize Moldova’s copyright and related rights protection system with the European one and came up with a series of recommendations and practical advice on the implementation of new directives.

After a series of discussions and debates that focused on several aspects of the copyright and related rights system, including the management system, the institutional and legislative framework for resolving disputes in the field, the participants in the event agreed on the need to continue the bilateral dialogue in both copyright domain and other important related topics, including enforcement of intellectual property rights, valorization of rights for the economic and cultural development of the country, etc.

In her speech, Mitrita Hahue, Deputy Director General of the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks (OSIM), mentioned the extremely fruitful and mutually beneficial collaboration that the two countries have in the field of industrial property and reiterated the willingness of OSIM for carrying out joint activities both on the AGEPI-OSIM bilateral dimension and in tripartite format: OSIM-AGEPI-ORDA.

The Romanian specialists congratulated the AGEPI delegation for the results registered by the Republic of Moldova in the field of intellectual property protection and gave assurances regarding the full and unconditional support in the process of Republic of Moldova’s integration into the European space and the promotion of our country in the European core structures: European Patent Office and European Union Intellectual Property Office.
