The International Conference entitled “The Role of IP Offices in the National Innovation Ecosystem” took place on October 12-13, this year, in Tbilisi, Georgia. The conference was organized in the context of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (SAKPATENTI).

The event was opened by Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Manana Pruidze, Acting Chairperson of SAKPATENTI.

During the conference, a special emphasis was placed on the growing role of national intellectual property (IP) offices in the knowledge-based economy, being presenting their challenges and achievements. Topics such as the development of policies, sustainable development programs for SMEs and their implementation, support to inventors, preparation of educational materials for the young generation, etc., were also addressed.

The Director General of AGEPI, Eugeniu Rusu, congratulated the Georgian center on the occasion of its 30th anniversary, wishing the SAKPATENTI team beautiful achievements and successful partnerships.

Next, the manager of the institution presented the experience of the office of the Republic of Moldova, the vision, challenges and successes of AGEPI in the process of consolidating the national IP system. Also during the event, Eugeniu Rusu addressed the subject of enforcement of intellectual property rights, the experience of establishing the Observatory on Enforcement of IP rights and its achievements.

The event brought together representatives of the Government of Georgia, WIPO, directors of national intellectual property offices from different countries, as well as representatives from various industrial sectors.
