AGEPI joined the TMclass Search Tool

10/23/2017

Starting with October 23, 2017, the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) joined the TMclass search tool provided by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

TMclass includes access to databases of the European Union’s national intellectual property offices and other major intellectual property offices, including the United States Patent and Trademark Office or the Japanese Patent Office.

TMclass is an online tool based on the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Registration of Marks (Nice Classification) that helps users correctly classify goods and services when filing a trademark application. The Nice Classification is divided into 45 classes of goods (classes 1 to 34) and services (classes 35 to 45).

TMclass has four main options:

  • Search term – you can search for Goods and Services descriptions (terms) and find out which class they are before applying for trademark protection.
  • Verify list of terms – you can check if a list of Goods and Services in a given language appears in the database of a participating office.
  • Translate term – for any word that you type in, you can find Goods and Services classification terms that contain that word in the language of your choice.
  • Translate list of terms – you can find equivalent terms in another EU language of a certain list of Goods and Services descriptions (terms).

Thus, TMclass allows users to find or translate equivalent terms for goods and services in all 43 available languages (including Romanian).

With this latest expansion, the total number of national and regional IP offices participating in TMclass is 66.

The integration of AGEPI is a result of the collaboration of the European Union Intellectual Property Office with its international partners.

TMclass is available free of charge, online, for all users, at the following address: http://euipo.europa.eu/ec2/?lang=en.

Information on the use of the TMclass tool can be viewed at the following address: http://euipo.europa.eu/ec2/static/html/help-en.html.
