The Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Eugeniu Rusu, participated in the joint mission of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the intellectual property offices of the European Union (EU), which took place in from October 23 to 24, 2023, in Kiev, Ukraine.

The purpose of the visit was to consolidate the cooperation between the EUIPO, the intellectual property offices of the member countries of the European Union and the Ukrainian National Office of Intellectual Property and Innovations (UANIPIO), supporting the Ukrainian authorities in their efforts to become a member of the European Union Intellectual Property Network (EUIPN) and promoting the EU-funded project for an intellectual property action in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

The EUIPO management participated in the event, together with the Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Ukraine and the heads of intellectual property offices from the Member States of the European Union.

During the mission held in Kyiv, the topics covered included detailed discussions on the harmonization of legislation and practices in the field of intellectual property between Ukraine and the Member States of the European Union. It was also emphasized the importance of protecting intellectual property rights, combating counterfeiting and piracy, and facilitating access to information and resources for innovators and content creators. Through these discussions, it was aimed to strengthen the legal and institutional framework for the promotion of innovation and creativity in Ukraine and partner countries, an important step for the sustainable development and economic prosperity of the region.

AGEPI’s participation in this mission represented a remarkable opportunity for the Republic of Moldova to strengthen relations with EUIPO and the intellectual property offices of the Member States of the European Union. Also, this initiative provided an opportunity to exchange views on ways to consolidate cooperation with UANIPIO and the Ukrainian IP Community, thus paving the way for future accession to the European Union.
