On 22 March 2017 the official launch of the European Union project "Support to Enforcement of the Intellectual Property Rights" (EuropeAid / 137 467 / DH / SER / MD) took place, which aims to support the Moldovan institutions in achieving the targets under the Association Agreement / DCFTA in the sector related to intellectual property.
The overall objective of the project is to improve the application of the law and regulations on intellectual property rights in the Republic of Moldova. The project is structured into six components which relate to three key areas: achieving the cultural change program in the field of intellectual property, developing an information system to facilitate the exchange of information between authorities competent of implementation of the intellectual property legislation and improving the protection and efficiency of geographic indications in the Republic of Moldova.
The project’s beneficiary is the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), together with co-beneficiaries Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Internal Affairs, General Prosecutor's Office, Customs Service and the Consumer Protection Agency. At the same time, project activities are aimed at all stakeholders, including the governmental and nongovernmental organizations, judiciary system, research and development institutions, entrepreneurial sector, civil society and the people of the Republic of Moldova at large.
The Opening conference was attended by representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, the Government of the Republic of Moldova, representatives of the project beneficiary institutions and other stakeholders. The Hungarian Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, H.E. Mr. Mátyás Szilágyi and the Italian Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, H.E. Ms. Valeria Biagiotti attended the conference.
The event was opened by Mr. Octavian Apostol, General Director of AGEPI. Following speeches held by Mr. Mindaugas Kacerauskis, Charge d'Affaires at the EU Delegation in Republic of Moldova, Mr. Valentin Guznac, Deputy Secretary General of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, Mrs. Andreea Comsa, Project Director from the leader of the consortium, Archidata Srl.
Further, international experts, Mr. Ioannis Sidiropoulos and Mr.Yuriy Kapitsa, made a presentation of the project, focusing on the key components and activities designed to help achieve its specific objectives.
The Technical Assistance project with a budget of about 2 million euros is funded by the European Union and is implemented by a Consortium led by Archidata Srl (Italy) together with European Profiles SA (Greece) and Business and Strategies in Europe S.A. (Belgium) for a period of 2 years until November 2018.
