„Support to Enforcement of the Intellectual Property Rights”
in the Republic of Moldova

Future lawyers, engineers and economists need widening intellectual property teaching in the universities of Moldova to meet the challenges of the modern economy

Teachers on Intellectual Property from universities and students from law, engineering, natural and economic faculties when studying intellectual property - could take into consideration three new curricula developed by the experts of EU Project "Support to Enforcement of the Intellectual Property Rights" in the Republic of Moldova. The methodological documents were presented in a roundtable dedicated to teaching IPR in the high education institutions, organized by the EU Project, in common with AGEPl, on 1st October.

At the opening, AGEPI Director, Ms. Lilia Bolocan, stressed the role of intellectual property as a fundamental tool in creating an environment conducive to innovation, creativity and free competition for the economic, social and cultural development of the Republic of Moldova. Ms. Lilia Bolocan also referred to AGEPI intellectual property trainings.

Mr. Yuriy Kapitsa, the EU Project key expert, said that during their mission, experts had visited several universities in the country and to analysed the quality of intellectual property (IPR) training. As a result, they proposed to give more attention to the teaching of this discipline, because actually the trends in the world are focused on innovation, creativity, intellectual value.

"In a world in continuous digital transformation, we must promptly respond to the challenge of creating and enforcing mechanisms for the protection of intellectual property. And today's event is a good platform to discuss current IPR issues, as well those related to studying this area in high education institutions", the expert mentioned.

Mr. Yuriy Kapitsa also affirmed that the EU Project provide support to give new impetus to IPR studies in universities. Therefore, were establish collaborations with three university lecturers to develop IPR curricula for law, engineering, natural sciences and economic faculties. As result, young specialists will gain knowledge and skills to enforce legislation both for IPR infringement prevention and for restoring and protecting this right.

The participants also discussed on current questions about the IPR teaching and management in universities. Finally, there was a general debate of what contains a course on intellectual property rights for students of different specialties, but also what practical activities should be offered to students in the frame of IPR course. It was accented the need to wider the teaching of intellectual property in the universities to meet the challenges of the modern economy. 

The event was attended by experts from the EU Project, AGEPI specialists and representatives from high education institutions of the Republic of Moldova.

The EU Project ”Support to Enforcement of the Intellectual Property Rights” in the Republic of Moldova is funded by the European Union and implemented by a Consortium of Archidata LLC (Italy), European Profiles S.C. (Greece) and Business and Strategies in Europe (Belgium). The project has a duration of two years and ends in November 2018.
