AGEPI participated in the International Trademark Association Annual Meeting

The Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Eugeniu Rusu, participated from May 16 to 20, 2023, in the 145th edition of the International Trademark Association (INTA) Annual Meeting held in Singapore. The event brought together approximately 7,000 intellectual property professionals from around the world, including trademark owners, lawyers, authorized attorneys, counselors in industrial property and government officials.

In this event of global importance, participants had the opportunity to address a number of issues for the international trademark community, such as the harmonization of legislation, the protection of notorious trademarks, the fight against counterfeiting and their evaluation.

In addition to training sessions and networking opportunities, INTA also included in the program a segment dedicated to government officials, which allowed for discussions on public policy in the field of trademark protection and development of intellectual property (IP) rights enforcement tools.

Participation in the INTA meeting allowed the General Director of AGEPI to exchange experiences with other professionals in the field of industrial property, to present the priorities of the office in the following period, as well as to familiarize himself with the latest trends in this field that is constantly developing. This interaction and exchange of knowledge contributes to the improvement of practices and policy in the field of industrial property protection in the Republic of Moldova.

On the occasion of his participation in the INTA Annual Meeting, in Singapore, Eugeniu Rusu also paid a working visit to the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) where he discussed with the Executive Director of IPOS Rena Lee several aspects with reference to the functions, powers and responsibilities of the national intellectual property office and its role in the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights. In the same way, they also discussed about the possibility of concluding a Cooperation Agreement between AGEPI and IPOS aimed at strengthening cooperation relations between the national intellectual property offices of the Republic of Moldova and Singapore.

Eugeniu Rusu’s participation in the INTA meeting in Singapore demonstrated the Republic of Moldova's commitment to promoting the field of intellectual property at the global level, and the importance of strengthening cooperations with similar organizations from other countries in order to improve practices in this field for the benefit of all parties involved.
