A working meeting took place on March 23, this year, in online format, with the participation of representatives of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) and the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks (OSIM), Romania. Topics related to OSIM’s experience regarding the harmonization of national legislation with EU legislation in the field of trademarks were discussed during the meeting.
In his welcoming speech, Andrei Popa, Deputy Director General of AGEPI, mentioned that currently the Agency is substantially involved in the process of harmonizing the legislation of the Republic of Moldova with the EU legislation, including in the chapter on trademark protection, and the OSIM practice will be useful to successfully fulfill the commitments assumed.
The OSIM delegation, led by Mitrita Hahue, Deputy Director General, presented the practice of the office and the problems encountered during the application period of the harmonized legislation, in particular with reference to the relative grounds for refusal of trademark registration, the opposition procedure, the electronic filing of trademark registration applications.
Both offices agreed to continue the cooperation, including by organizing further working meetings and exchanging documents.
