Constantin Moscovici was awarded the WIPO Gold Medal for Creativity

Constantin Moscovici, performer and composer of light music from the Republic of Moldova, holder of the honorary title of Master of Art and People’s Artist, was awarded the Gold Medal of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for Creativity.

Virtuoso of one of the oldest musical instruments - the bagpipe, soloist of the “Serghei Lunchevici” National Philharmonic, the artist is unmistakable for his interpretation of the song “The Lonely Shepherd” by James Last, the song that welcomes and sees off travelers from Chisinau International Airport, and also for many others. The performer brought the fame of the Republic of Moldova to numerous festivals and international competitions, and through his remarkable successes he personally contributed to the propagation of true national values.

At the international level, the distinctions awarded by WIPO are considered among the most prestigious rewards given to creators. The WIPO distinctions selection and, finally, awarding procedure is the prerogative and responsibility of the national IP offices. WIPO cooperates with the respective offices and helps establish criteria, rules and procedures for the selection and participation of candidates. This year’s winner was selected according to the following criteria: the contribution to economic and cultural development, the popularity of the creative activity among the public and the candidate’s potential as a source of inspiration.

The WIPO Medal for Creativity aims to raise awareness of the World Organization and its activities and to provide national authorities and organizations with ways to highlight and reward creativity and relevant achievements in copyright and related rights.

The awarding took place during the festive ceremony dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the foundation of AGEPI and was handed over by the WIPO representative, Habib Asan, Director for Transition and Developed Countries.

We should mention that the WIPO Gold Medal for Creativity was previously awarded to the writers Ion Druta, Dumitru Matcovschi, Spiridon Vangheli, the poet Grigore Vieru, the composer Eugen Doga, the opera singer Maria Biesu, the chief choreographer of the National Academic Folk Dance Ensemble “JOC” Vladimir Curbet, to the actor Mihai Volontir and the director Igor Cobileanschi, to the artistic director and first conductor of the National Orchestra of Folk Music “Lautarii” (“Fiddlers”) Nicolae Botgros, to the Sports Dance Club “Codreanca”.
