The Global Innovation Index is one of the most important reference studies for measuring the performance of countries based on innovation. 131 countries around the world are taken into account, using approximately 80 indicators, including: Human and research capital, Infrastructure, Loans, Investments, Interconnections, Innovation, Creative activity outputs, etc.
The Global Index ranking has been published annually since 2007 and is conducted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Cornell University in the United States and the French Management School Insead.
The theme of this year’s Global Innovation Index is: “Who Will Finance Innovation?” given the global economic damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The rapid, worldwide spread of the coronavirus requires fresh thinking to ensure a shared victory over this global challenge,” says WIPO Director General Francis Gurry. “Even as we all grapple with the immediate human and economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, governments need to ensure that rescue packages are future oriented and support the individuals, research institutes, companies and others with innovative and collaborative new ideas for the post-COVID era. Innovations equal solutions.” says Francis Gurry.
The purpose of this report is to familiarize the public with the news in innovations and to address this area beyond traditional innovation mechanisms, reflecting in the light of research and development indicators the situation at global, regional and national level.
