The State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), represented by Mrs Natalia Mogol, Deputy Director General, participated in the conference “The Role of Science in the Modern World - Artificial Intelligence. The Challenge of the 21st Century”, held on November 6, 2025, in the Azure Hall of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (with parallel sessions in the Aula of the Romanian Academy). The event brought together personalities of the scientific community from the Republic of Moldova and Romania, organized by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) and the Romanian Academy, in partnership with the branch academies.
In the opening of the conference, Acad. Ioan-Aurel Pop, President of the Romanian Academy, and Acad. Ion Tighineanu, President of the ASM, followed by greetings from Prof. Peter Gluckman, President of the International Science Council, and Prof. James Rothman, Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine (2013). The program included interventions by representatives of the branch academies and scientific communications on the current directions of artificial intelligence (AI).
The topics discussed covered: the evolution of science and technology in the context of AI; the impact of AI on medicine (benefits, risks and mitigation measures); new legal disciplines in the era of artificial intelligence (the law of artificial intelligence and the law of the “digital human”); challenges in computing infrastructure for AI; agricultural research in a changing world and new goenomic techniques; as well as the role of culture and arts in sustainable development. A special moment was the performance of the Sustainable Development Anthem “Blue Planet”. The event was held in a mixed format (physical and online).
AGEPI reconfirmed its interest in identifying innovative approaches to the topic of artificial intelligence, especially in terms of legal implications: data governance, intellectual property rights in the context of model training, transparency and auditability of AI systems, as well as the need for balanced mechanisms for access to data and remuneration of creators.
The effort of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the Romanian Academy in organizing and supporting this conference is appreciated; without a genuine synergy between the efforts of all members of society – especially academia – the complex challenges of artificial intelligence cannot be overcome. In this spirit, AGEPI remains open to cooperation and the development of joint projects that responsibly address the legal and ethical dimensions of AI.
