On the occasion of the World Science Day for Peace and Development, the Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Eugeniu Rusu, participated in the 3rd edition of the Research and Innovation Festival “Science for Peace and Development: Creativity, Experience, Perspectives”, organized by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) in partnership with the Council of Rectors of the Republic of Moldova.

The event included an exhibition and a festive meeting, bringing together notable personalities from the scientific world, Ministers of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, rectors of higher education institutions, directors of research institutes and agencies, researchers, teachers and other promoters of science and innovation. The Director General of AGEPI, Eugeniu Rusu, present at the event, sent congratulations to all those who have dedicated their lives to research and are contributing substantially to the sustainable development of the Republic of Moldova.

Globally, the theme of this year’s Science Day is “Why Science Matters – Engaging Minds and Empowering the Future”. In addition, in 2024, the World Science Day for Peace and Development is marked under the aegis of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development, with a focus on young people and the role of science in a rapidly-changing digitalized world.

On the same day, the Romanian Academy and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova organized a festive meeting to mark the official launch in the Romanian space of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (2024–2033), proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly on August 25, 2023.

Traditionally, on Science Day, the awards of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova for valuable scientific results of 2022–2023 were awarded. The awards were presented for achievements in fields such as the Romanian language and literature, history and archaeology, law, economics, the study of the arts, for young researchers, and for the promotion of science in the mass media.

At the same time, the ASM awarded the Director General of AGEPI, Eugeniu Rusu, the “Nicolae Milescu Spatarul” Medal for outstanding contributions to the promotion of science and innovation at the national and international levels, and for the effective cooperation with the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.

The World Science Day for Peace and Development is marked annually on November 10, with the objectives to strengthen awareness on the role of science for peaceful and sustainable societies, to promote solidarity for shared science between countries and to renew the commitment for the use of science for the benefit of societies, according to UNESCO.
